Analogous Color Scheme

This was my second project in my design and color two class. We trying to make a composition with the analogous color scheme.
These three were my favorite of my initial sketches. Inevitably I decided on 3 as I am most interested type and wanted to strengthen my work with type for impact. I wanted to create a composition that explained the meaning of the word. Originally I was putting the meaning of lyrical in the composition for context. However as I worked I realized that I could say the same thing with all the elements in my piece.
I tried incorporating the swirl of the c into the rest of the composition.
For the analogous color scheme I wanted to have a little bit of warm and a little bit of cool. I tend to lean toward blues more often, however I wanted to work outside of my comfort zone so I chose a color I generally avoid. After going through a few different color schemes I decided to go with Red-violet, Red, and Red-orange. I liked having the darkest of the values in Lyrical but I wasn't sure how to make it stand out with such high saturation in everything.
I eventually decided to bring in the highest values round the darkest values for contrast. I felt this better brought the focus to the center of the page then pulled the focus through the word and around the looping background.

I really enjoined the project because I was able to explore typography more, which I hadn't taken before this project. I researched a lot of artists and that helped expand my imagination of what I could do.

Through the process I was able to work through different ideas and experiment with bringing in repeating and reflective elements.  While doing that I got to draw leaves which I love drawing.
